A suicide bomber killed 13 Iraqi army recruits and wounded more than 30 in Baghdad, police said.
A man with an explosive vest had blown himself up on Thursday amid the recruits at the small Muthanna airfield used by the army in the Iraqi capital.
The attack came a day after gunmen killed 12 soldiers and
wounded four more at a military site in Al-Adhim, north of the capital.
No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
Fighters opposed to the Iraqi government frequently target security forces with bombings and shootings.
The blast came day after Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki vowed to eradicate al-Qaeda in the country, who have taken over parts of the western Anbar province.
Call for volunteers
In a televised address on Wednesday, Maliki predicted victory as his army prepared to launch an offensive against the fighters.
Fighters from the al-Qaeda-linked Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), which is also active across the border in Syria, overran police stations in Falluja and Ramadi last week.
The government had asked last week for volunteers to join the military effort against al-Qaeda.
Violence in Iraq has reached a level not seen since 2008, when the country was just emerging from a brutal period of sectarian killings.
It took just five days for this month's death toll to top 246, the figure for all of January last year, according to AFP news agency figures based on security and medical sources.
